Where my patina lovers at? Lots of clever names, from tropical to spider to starry night, and I’m here for all of it. I’m dubbing this one: the Rorschach test. Ya just look at this dial, tell me what you see, and it’ll reveal something buried deep in your psyche (disclaimer: I have zero medical training…) Don’t see original semi California Rolex dials from the 1940s pop up often, they just didn’t survive. If you appreciate a little history and a lot of Wabi-sabi, this is a very cool piece to rock! REFERENCE: 4377 DATE: 1945 DIAL: A crazy cool mix of radium burn and decades of existing! Awesome to see an original semi California dial paired with the original blued pencil hands. Either patina is your thing or it isn’t, for those of us who dig it, it’s an opportunity to wear a one-off piece if wrist art. CRYSTAL: High domed plexi crystal is in good shape with light wear throughout. CASE: Usually these 1940s examples are small, 30MM, so very nice to see this in a 34.5 MM stainless oyster case. With 19MM lugs it wears well for today’s standards, just shy of a Datejust. Of course has wear throughout, but looks great on the wrist, including the very cool Rolex + Oyster crown! MOVEMENT: Hand wound Rolex movement was fully serviced by a previous owner roughly a year ago, so winding and setting smoothly and keeping good time. STRAP: Beautiful distressed brown leather strap that matches the vibe perfectly.
