It checks the ambient temperature around the watch 540 times per day to ensure the movement can adjust and regulate itself. ***- The Seal.*** Upon opening the case back you might notice the movement itself is sealed away, safe from prying eyes (and fingers), leaving only the battery easily accessible. Not only does this drastically reduce the chance of your watch being damaged during a battery change, but it also means the lubricants in your watch movement are less likely to dry out as they are inside Grand Seiko's "Super Sealed Cabin". This should elongate the time between services. ***- The Perfect Tick.*** Seiko set out to solve a problem that very few people even think about; the backlash that happens after every tick of a quartz watch. A quartz second hand jerks forward so suddenly and violently that its momentum carries forward even after the second hand reaches its destination, resulting in a little wobble. Thanks to the Grand Seiko's "Backlash Auto-Adjust" mechanism found in the SBGN013, the wobble is a thing of the past and now all you're left with is the "perfect tick". ***- The GMT.*** Unlike lots of GMT complications, the second hand doesn't hack when you adjust the GMT hand.
