A Japan exclusive Seiko 5 Actus with a special dial portraying a vivid ukiyo-e print by Kitagawa Utamaro. In terms of mysterious origin stories, this one stands out as particularly unique. To commemorate Philately Week on November 1st, 1955, the Japan Post Co released an 11-part series of 10 yen stamps celebrating renowned ukiyo-e artists and their iconic woodblock prints. These stamps served as the canvas for creating limited ukiyo-e dials, rumored to have been customized by prominent Japanese Seiko retailers during the late 1960s and early 1970s. At its most basic, the 5 Actus serves as a platform for this unique piece. Launched in 1970, the 5 Actus was a Japanese Domestic Market exclusive sub-brand under Seiko. Featuring a 37mm cushion case, the reference 7019-7060 is characterised by fluid and seamless lines merging with a polished round bezel. Complemented by the recessed crown, this design arrangement gives the watch a pebble-like shape that is very organic. The dial is accented with slender baton indexes, dauphine hands and a framed day-date complication presented in both English and Kanji. The watch is powered by the Daini developed calibre 7019A movement. It is equipped with a Diashock system which accounts for a higher 21 jewels. The movement beats at a frequency of 21,600 A/h with a quickset day and date function. ***Condition Report*** This 5 Actus is in overall great condition. There is slight wear marks which is consistent with a watch of this age. The case is nice and unpolished. The dial is preserved in pristine condition with no deterioration. The crown pushes in and clicks out well. The quickset day and date function works perfectly. The movement was recently serviced in December 2023 and is keeping perfect time. The original signed Seiko 5 Actus bracelet with 181 end links fits up to a 7.5” wrist. The watch comes with a new Saffiano orange leather strap and a green travel pouch.
