Released in 1966, the Cosmotron is Citizen’s first electronic watch - and Japan’s first electronic watch, for that matter. According to the company, it was the world’s first watch to use a “moving-magnet type balance motor, driven by a transistor on the regulating device”. In 1972, Citizen introduced a new generation of Cosmotron watches, now powered by the famous caliber 7800. The beat rate was increased to 36,000 bph – a huge step over the company’s 18,000 and 21,600 bph movements. But the best thing about the 7800 series is the quickset mechanism. Pushing the crown while the watch is facing up changes the date, but pushing it if the dial is upside-down changes the day. So far, no other company has done this. Condition-wise, this has to be one of the best Citizen Cosmotron I’ve seen. The case and bracelet are incredibly crisp (albeit with minor markings) and the dial is pristine. According to the serial number, it was made in August 1972. **Details & More** **Condition:** Very good. Read the introduction and check the pictures for more detail. **Case Size:** 37.5 x 43.7 mm, with a thickness of 12 mm. **Movement:** Citizen 7802A Electronic - 8 jewels, 36,000 bph, and day/date quickset.
