*Vacheron & Constantin's reference 6073 gained historical significance upon the Maisons release of their FiftySix model in 2018. As Vacheron puts it, "The Fiftysix collection is a clear tribute to product 6073, a watchmaking legend. A name and a date evoking an iconic model by Vacheron Constantin dating from 1956" The inception of the 6073 was intended as an artistic expression of blends between both modern and classical design. This is evidenced by the stark contrast between the dial and the case. The former, a full compliment of V&C classical dial manufacturing including a raised champleve enamel signature and hand applied hour/minute markings. On the other hand we have the case. Direct inspiration taken from the Maisons very own emblem, the cases very own lugs meant to evoke the arms of the Cross. A daring design to say the least.* *From the research I have conducted, the reference 6073 came in two distinct dial configurations. One with an arrowhead hour marker in the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock position with dagger markers utilized to fill in the rest. This dial was luminous. The hands were dauphine and also lumed. The other variation featured alternating dagger and semi-baton hour markers. This was a non-luminous dial and was completed by non-luminous pencil hands. The crown The 6073 is a center sweeping seconds hand configuration and should be powered by the caliber 1019, a Vacheron exclusive Jaeger Lecoultre ebauche. Please note that V&C did go on to utilize this case in a variety of center second and sub second references. Furthermore, the 6073 had a unique dodecagonal caseback and a crown that was serrated with a rounded finish adorning the Maltese crown. The rounded edge less pronounced than the boiler hat styled crown.* *The case manufacturer for the 6073 was Eggly & Cie who were produced cases from the mid thirties to approximately the end of the 20th century. They manufactured high-end cases for the likes of Patek Phillipe, Vacheron & Constantin and Audemars Piguet. They specialized in eccentric styles and designs included the Calatrava 2407 dubbed "Sea Turtle." They were also noted for going on to produce Vacherons famed corne de vaches.* *We are pleased to offer a very honest example of a 6073. The dial remains all original and demonstrates no signs of cleaning. It is the non-luminous dial variation. The raised enamel signature is intact and pronounced. Patina can be appreciated on various aspects of the dial on the superficial lacquer layer. Its case has been polished in the past though not overly so and their is a charming engraving on the caseback that ends with the year "1956" the very name of the reissue.* **ABOUT THIS WATCH:** **MANUFACTURER:** Vacheron & Constantin **MODEL:** Patrimony **REFERENCE:** 6073 **YEAR**: 1956 **SERIAL**: 35xxxx **CASE**: The 35mm solid 18kt yellow gold case is in fair shape.
