Gotta love the classic Rolex Datejust 1601! And this one has some special sauce - one of those “look closer… look closer again” examples! (You know I will wax poetically about it!) REF: 1601 SERIAL: 5,118,XXX YEAR: 1978 DIAL: Classic silver sunburst pie pan dial right? Yes BUT look closer… sigma dial, ooohh, love it… look closer still… black inlay on the hour markers and matching on the hands - definitely a combo you do not see often! All of that with beautifully aged tritium lume makes for a fantastic example! Great condition as you can see, just incredibly clean. Vintage plexi crystal has wear throughout, as expected, but all in looks great too. CASE: Classic 36MM stainless steel case, with gorgeous solid 18K white gold bez! Cases in good shape, has been polished in the past but remains fairly thick, with light wear throughout. MOVEMENT: Service history unknown, but the Rolex automatic workhorse winds and sets very well. A little bit of noise from the rotor which you often find on these, but all in working great and timegrapher numbers are good at 5 seconds a day with an amplitude of 223. STRAP: I think classic silver datejusts looks fantastic on a brown strap, so I’m loving this combo with a brand new handmade French leather strap! ACCESSORIES: Watch on strap only.
