But the Accutron Astronaut supersedes this phenomenon by being a total encapsulation of meticulous craft and innovative tech.Going public in 1960, the Accutron Astronaut was the watch for accuracy. To this day historians and watch enthusiasts alike hold its tuning fork and battery movement as one of the best time keeping apparatuses ever invented. And it was due to this precision that lead to the CIA’s usage of the Astronaut in its most top secret assignments.Notably, the watch was used in development of the Leekhead A-12 spy plane and the North American X-15, the latter of which is still considered the fastest aircraft in history. Moreover, the data gathered by the X-15 was crucial in the development and success of the Apollo program, which the Accutron Astronaut would also be a part of.While today, most wearers won’t be traveling faster than a bullet, sitting in a 140 F (60 C) cockpit, or spying on politically polar nations, the Accutron Astronaut is amongst the most historically rich and technologically advanced watches on Earth. It is a watch that defies expectations, with the stats to prove it. An equity piece that will peak the interest of party goers while giving the user the best time keeping humanity has been able to muster.1966 Bulova Catalog detailing two variants of this watch. The company initially manufactured fine jewelry, but in 1911, it began producing Pocket Watches Like the "American Maid" and ladies wristwatches with the "Rubaiyat" which were popular at the time. In 1920, Bulova introduced the first complete range of men's wristwatches in the United States. This was a prominent milestone as wristwatches were gaining popularity and replacing pocket watches. In the years that followed, Bulova became a well-known brand and a leader in watchmaking, introducing many innovative technologies to the industry. For example, in 1927, Bulova introduced the first clock radio. In 1941, the company began producing watches for the US military and WWII alongside other American Brands like Hamilton and Waltham. Throughout its history, Bulova continued to innovate and expand. In 1960, the company Introduced Accutron, the first electronic watch, which provided greater accuracy than mechanical watches. They continued their partnership with the U.S Government through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration AKA NASA and the U.S. Air Force.Bulova was vital to NASA with the use of Accutron timekeeping devices in over 40 space missions. One of the most prominent being Project Vanguard which were the first U.S. manmade satellites to successfully orbit around the earth. In 2008, the Bulova Watch Company was acquired by Japanese multinational conglomerate, Citizen Watch Co., Ltd. Today, Bulova continues to produce high-quality timepieces, including both mechanical and quartz watches, as well as clocks and accessories. ***INFO*** **Model**: Accutron Astronaut "K" **Reference**: 24039Y **Year**: 1966 **Dial Color**: Black **Style**: Military **Bracelet:** Original JB Champion Bullet Bracelet w/ 14K Gold Trim **Sizing**: Full Links (Fits up to 8.5" Wrist) **Box**: No **Papers**: No **Other Accessories**: None ***WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW*** The previous owner of this watch purchased it back in 1986 from a Bulova executive who bought it directly from a jeweler back in the 70's. It was new old stock and the jeweler couldn't get rid of it so he sold it to that Bulova representative who never wore it and sold it once again in 1986, it was never worn again. Due to the nature of the transaction there were no box or papers given. This is based off the word of the previous owner which we have no reason not to believe. The entire watch is in immaculate condition. Only hairline scratches found on the sides of the case and clasp. The tritium lume in completely intact on the hands and hour markers and have bubble finely and evenly due to the great care given to it. The acrylic crystal appears to be original as well with no scratches whatsoever.
