For sale today is a killer example of a 2017 Rolex 116600 Sea-Dweller 4000 (SD4K). This particular piece is being offered as a full set, with a 03/2023 RSC service and an Everest Rubber Strap! This piece is a bit of a unicorn, if you’re into that sort of thing. Let me explain: The 116600 is one of the shortest productions runs of any Rolex ever produced at about three years. When the 16600 was discontinued, many thought that we saw the end of the 40mm Sea-Dweller, particularly once the 116660 was introduced. But in 2014, the 116600 brought back the 40mm SD, and then in 2017 it was gone, on the 50th anniversary of the first Sea-Dweller, made in 1967 (The 1665). This piece was sold in early 2017, just before the announcement that the 116600 would be discontinued, marking the end of the 40mm SD, this time, it appears, for good. So not only is this watch part of one of the shortest runs, but it is from the end of said run, and sold on the 50th year of Rolex Sea-Dweller production. Phew, how about all those numbers! Long story short, even without all the dates, the 116600 is one hell of a watch, the perfect size for an SD with all the modern luxuries like cerachrome bezel and glidelock glasp. This thing is a tank and I would love to keep it, but alas it has to go to fund a birthyear grail piece.This piece is an excellent condition, as it was recently serviced to like-new condition. It has a few swirls on the glidelock clasp, and a few light marks on the undersides of the lugs from its brief stint on the Everest rubber strap. The sapphire crystal, bezel, and overall case are gorgeous (the crown even lines up perfectly vertical.)
