Hamilton This is an incredible Hamilton desk clock from the 1890's. It features a pocket watch movement and dial set in an exhibition desktop clock case that swivels to easily show either side. I believe that this is an example of a sales-desk sample watch. In the 1890's, it was most common to get your pocket watch custom built. You would choose the movement, the dial, the case material and style, then you could choose to do a personal engraving, etc, and they would assemble your bespoke watch. This clock would allow a jeweler to easily show off one of the movements and dials that was available to the customers. It is one of the most intricately and elaborately decorated movements I have seen, and the finishing just looks gorgeous! The movement is functioning well and keeping time. It is a "lever-set" movement, so you change the time by accessing the lever by unscrewing the front bezel by hand. See pics. The beautiful porcelain dial is in flawless condition, with no cracks, chips, or other damage. The base measures 4-inches by 1.5-inches, and the height is less than 2.75-inches.
