1964 168.5004 18k Gold Cased Omega Constellation
Hi all,
This is a Dennison cased Omega Constellation dating to 1964 in 18ct gold. It has been in and out of my collection for a while now. Serviced approximately 18 months ago, I don't think I've worn it 4 times since. Thats not to say you shouldn't because its a great watch but .... like some here, I can't even count how many watches I have.
There are plenty here who know this model and range far better than me, so I won't go in to a lot of detail. Those of you who know me know that I sell watches and antique jewellery but this is a strange one. There's a lot of gold in it for starters, which makes it pretty valuable, but the market for this particular model is a little soft. I don't really want to undersell it online or put it in to auction, so I am offering it here for a little over its gold price.
Case - made in solid 18ct yellow gold. It is 36mm wide, 37mm with the crown. The watch is 40.5mm lug to lug and takes an 18mm strap or bracelet. We have not polished the case. It is in very good order. So good that the camera has really struggled with the shiny surfaces. There is are a few surface marks but nothing to draw the eye. Overall it's very good.
Caseback - solid 18ct gold. This is quite a chunk of gold at that. Good order throughout and correctly stamped internally for Omega, Dennison and assayed in 1964.
Dial - silvered crosshair dial in good order. I don't think this has ever been messed around with. Correct applied markers, star and logo. All the print lines up as it should. Crosshairs go through the bits they should go through and stop where they're supposed to. All four lines meet the cardinal markers squarely. Some "age spots" and marks but little to nothing you will see with the naked eye.
Hands - when the watch came to us, it had the wrong handset. The watch is now fitted with the correct, new old stock, hands. In as new condition.
Crown - original and correct crown. Good order.
Glass - this was polished at service. The crystals on Dennison cases were not marked with the Omega symbol. This does not carry the logo, as expected. It may, or may not, be original but it is correct.
Movement - an absolute joy. Calibre 561 automatic date and time. 24 jewels and adjusted to 5 positions. Originally made to chronometre standards and just a great thing. We have serviced the movement prior to listing and it tracks beautifully.
Strap - the watch came on an original Omega leather strap. Unfortunately that leather was quite perished so it has been out on a lightly padded embossed black leather. This is a good quality leather and we kept the plated Omega buckle that was with the watch.

If you're in the States, do bear in mind your Customs are draconian now with gold watches (they were bad before but, Christ on a bike, its near impossible dealing with them now) so be vigilant for any notifications.
Other than that, shout if you want to know more.
