1940s Junghans J97 – White Dial, 34mm, Stunning Condition
1940s Junghans J97 – White Dial, 34mm, Stunning Condition
Offering the sister piece to the 1930s Junghans “Adventurer” I recently sold — this one’s the Narcisse to that Goldmund. A contemplative contrast. But same soul.
34mm chrome-plated case that remains crisp and unpolished. Edges are sharp, lugs clean, and plating is remarkably intact — no corrosion or pitting to note.
The watch sits beautifully on the wrist, with great clarity and contrast.
The white dial is in near-perfect condition, with all original printing and luminous Arabic numerals fully intact. A single, unobtrusive blemish sits between 4 and 5 o’clock, visible under magnification but not disruptive to the overall presentation.
The hands are heat-blued steel, lume-filled, with a stunning warm orange tone that catches light beautifully — all matching and aged evenly. It’s signed with the correct Junghans 8-pointed star, period-accurate and well-centered.
Inside beats the Junghans J97, a proprietary 15-jewel hand-wound movement developed in the 1940s and protected by its original dust cover. The caliber features small seconds at 6, a traditional flat hairspring, and runs at 18,000 bph. It winds smoothly and keeps time well. No service under my ownership, but it has proven reliable on the wrist.
A true survivor, and a rare example of mid-century German watchmaking in such well-preserved condition. A fantastic piece for collectors of Junghans, Bauhaus-era civilian watches, or early post-war European tool watches.
