Hello, I’ve inherited a collection of watches and am now looking to sell some of them. For sale is a beautiful vintage Stowa hand-wound wristwatch, originally believed to date from the early 1960s. However, after consulting my watchmaker, who examined a photo of the movement, it appears to be an even earlier piece from the 1940s or early 1950s. This is due to the use of an older shaped movement with lever escapement and no shock protection. For a watch of that era, it's almost a sensation to see the dial in such outstanding condition. The dial is exceptionally well-preserved, showing no signs of oxidation and retaining its original, clean appearance. It's rare to find a vintage watch with such a pristine dial, particularly from this period. The watch features elegant blued steel hands, which stand out beautifully against the dial and add a refined character to the overall design. It houses a traditional hand-wound movement. While it runs, I have not tested it for accuracy. A full service can be arranged prior to purchase if desired. The stainless-steel case shows scratches, which isn't untypical for a watch of this age. Given the flat surfaces of the case, these marks could likely be polished out, but I would personally leave it untouched, as it reflects the watch’s authentic vintage character. Of course, the decision is up to the new owner. The watch will be delivered either on a brand-new leather strap or an original Expandro bracelet, which suits the piece wonderfully.
