Omega Seamaster GX6250 / Sparkling Black Gilt Dial / 14K GF / 50s
Omega Seamaster GX6250 / Sparkling Black Gilt Dial / 14K GF / 50s
The rationalisation of my collection goes on... So, here's a great opportunity to step into the a lovely original black dial Seamaster with a nicely fat 14K gold filled case. This piece sparkles on the wrist and looks amazing, even though it is certainly not a perfect piece, hence priced accordingly. This GX6250 is the US version of the much more renown 2846.
Please find an assessment of the watch below. I have attempted to be as brutally honest as can be. Also note that I am certainly neither an expert on 50s Seamasters, nor the first owner of this watch. Hence I cannot guarantee originality of parts.
Dial: The original dial is in a lovely, aged condition with a subtle sparkling effect. The body colour is homogeneous. Note that there are a few scratches on the plexiglass (particularly just at 4 o'clock from the centre and above the 5 o'clock marker), the dial itself seems clean. The 'printing' (note: gilt) is perfectly okay too. All indexes present, yet a little tarnished, some still have a lume blob af the tip.
Wear this one in summer or at least daylight and it will pop!
Hands: Probably original. The lengths and shapes match perfectly to a few other examples of this reference I have seen.
Case: About 34,5mm width. Nice fat case with an unbroken cover of gold (gold filled). Some hairline scratches and minor dents but overall in very good condition. Note that these cases did not have the faceted lugs the 2846 has, what wasn't there, hasn't been polished out. 😉 The edge around the bezel is still strong, sharp and has a nice, even, width. Caseback is in perfect order with the 14K G.F. engraving in very sharp condition.
Movement and Serial: A trusty Calibre 500 automatically wound movement with a serial in the 14646xxx range, dating to the mid50s. It runs and winds smoothly with all functions working properly, but has no known service history and a rather low amplitude. Good enough for occasional use, certainly in need of a service in case you are planning on wearing this daily!
Crown: A nicely colour-matched but unsigned later replacement.
Bracelet: None. This piece comes watch only. I will include a - probably aftermarket - Omega singed buckle that does match the gold tone of the case quite nicely.
Package: Watch only.
Shipped worldwide at buyers expense, although I would strongly prefer a F2F deal in the Netherlands given the value of this piece and the added benefit of meeting a fellow OF-member in person.
No returns, please ask questions and extra pictures in advance. I am not making a habit out of selling, but I do have quite some - exclusively positive - references as a seller and buyer on this forum and could share more.

Price: EUR 799 (net to me, excluding shipping)
On to the pictures, which were extremely tricky to take in the current grey weather. I hope it still shows enough of the amazing potential this piece has.
