This one is very hard to let go, but I need to make room for another watch in the rotation, and eventually want to get a different Breguet. About: This is the discontinued Breguet Marine 5817st. Many people feel this is superior to the current Marine 5517 for several reasons: the 5817st has a hand cut guilloche spiral pattern on a solid gold disc and a double-digit “big date”. The current 5517 has a single digit date and lacks a guilloche dial. Also, the discontinued 5817st has a hand-finished movement with wave-pattern guilloche, hand laid cotes de geneve, and rounded hand laid anglage. The current model is machine finished, likely due to Swatch Group cost cutting. The 5817st had two generations — the later production years of the 5817st had a silicon hairspring (antimagnetic) and a free-sprung balance. The earlier production of this model had a non-free sprung balance and a normal metal alloy hairspring. This watch is a later production year — exact year unknown — and has the free sprung balance and silicon hairspring. Diameter — 39mm Thickness — 12.1mm Lug to lug — 50mm (but I have a 6.4 inch wrist and it wears well as the lugs turn down) Water resistance — 100m Condition: Like new — Watch is in excellent condition and keeping time within (actually better) chronometer spec. A few hairline scratches on the bezel, but hard to notice. Sides and case back are immaculate, as are the lugs. Threaded spring bars are fully functional for doing strap changes.
