This is an exceptionally rare vintage Seiko that is ALL oroginal and in unbelievable condition. This came to me from Japan where it was made over 50 years ago. Its a February 1969 example which makes it a very early version of this watch. It's entirely original and even has remnants of the original caseback protective sticker. It also has the bracelet sizing sticker on the clasp as well! This truly hasn't been worn very much at all. The case is unpolished and almost factory new. The edges are as crisp as the day it was made. The bezel is perfect and rotates beautifully. The inner bezel also rotates on this watch. The caseback has some scratches from handling and storage. The crystal is almost perfect, with a couple flea bite marks that are very hard to see. This is a hard one for me to sell but ultimately I need the funds for other purchases. Anyone that knows this model will know how truly rare they are in this condition. Thanks for looking! Price: $950 shipped

The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewelry shop called "K. Hattori" (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten?) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha (精工舎 Seikōsha?), meaning roughly "House of Exquisite Workmanship". According to Seiko's official company history, titled "A Journey In Time: The Remarkable Story of Seiko" (2003), Seiko is a Japanese word meaning "exquisite" or "success" ("exquisite" is usually written 精巧 from Chinese jīngqiǎo, while the meaning "success" is usually written 成功 from Chinese chénggōng).

Seiko is perhaps best known for its wristwatches, all of which were at one time produced entirely in-house. This includes not only major items such as microgears, motors, hands, crystal oscillators, batteries, sensors, LCDs but also minor items such as the oils used in lubricating the watches and the luminous compounds used on the hands and the dials.
