In 1935 the first Movado waterproof wristwatch, the "Acvatic," was introduced. This unusual spelling of the word comes from the Latin word "aqua" (water) and was registered as a trademark on February 13, 1936. Produced in various sizes, the Acvatic had a screw-down case back with a lead gasket and a cork gasket for the winding crown. It was developed by the Francois Borgel case manufacturing company in Geneva, owned by three brothers named Tauber (the very same case maker that made the most collectible Patek Phillipe vintage watches). Over the following decades they developed many other waterproof cases of various shapes for Movado.
