Seiko SJE085 Laurel Alpinist 1959 Limited Edition Numbered Reissue Movement: The rare 6L35. 28,800 bph for a smooth sweep. Very thin, and better regulated than most Seiko movements. Look at the picture I posted of the timegrapher reading--this watch is keeping a consistent +3 seconds/day for me with no beat error and high amplitude. As a bonus, the date change is instantaneous within a few minutes of midnight. Condition: Excellent. Crystal is flawless. Bezel is nonexistent. Case is excellent. Caseback has some wear from straps. OEM strap is installed and in unworn like new condition. Specs: 36.5mm diameter. 11.3mm thin, but about 2mm of that is boxed sapphire crystal. 10 bar water resistant. Strong Seiko lumibrite lume. Hidden 4:30 date. Sapphire crystal with good inner AR coating. Box and papers: Included. These limited editions come with a beautiful laquered wood box. Price: $1,425 shipped CONUS. The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewelry shop called "K. Hattori" (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten?) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha (精工舎 Seikōsha?), meaning roughly "House of Exquisite Workmanship". According to Seiko's official company history, titled "A Journey In Time: The Remarkable Story of Seiko" (2003), Seiko is a Japanese word meaning "exquisite" or "success" ("exquisite" is usually written 精巧 from Chinese jīngqiǎo, while the meaning "success" is usually written 成功 from Chinese chénggōng).

Seiko is perhaps best known for its wristwatches, all of which were at one time produced entirely in-house. This includes not only major items such as microgears, motors, hands, crystal oscillators, batteries, sensors, LCDs but also minor items such as the oils used in lubricating the watches and the luminous compounds used on the hands and the dials.
