With its 36.5mm diameter excluding crown being large for its time, hence the nickname ‘Jumbo’, it is now the perfect size as a modern day dress watch. It’s slim profile of 6mm excluding the domed acrylic crystal provide the perfect piece to slide under the cuff of a crisp shirt. The crown comes with IWC’s signature fish logo crown, meant to represent the watch’s water proof ability and being a staple of IWC’s design in the vast majority of its then collection. When pulled, the hacking mechanism of the beautiful calibre 8541 movement is activated, which is an uncommon sight for its time and allows for accurate time setting. The dial comes topped with sharp and shiny mirror dauphine hands and their black paint matching that on the raised hour markers. Furthermore, the minute track on the dial is applied with little steel dots that give it a 3D feel and are able to dance the light off it at certain angles. As being an original dial, it comes with some barely noticeable signs of age at its 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock hour markers. However not affecting the performance of the watch at all. Moving on, inside the case would be the absolutely stunning calibre 8541 that has been recently serviced in July 2024, running at an amazing +1s/day. The circular brushing finish showcases the absolute attention to detail on something that isn’t meant to see the light of day.
