The 8J is considered within Seiko to be one of the best quartz movements, much better than the well-known 9F and much more stable and accurate. It was expensive to produce and part of the design made it hard to fit into thinner cases. The 8J even has the jumping hour had, which was just recently added to 9F only a couple of years ago.
