While Grand Seiko and King Seiko often steal the spotlight for their finishing and innovation, it was actually the Lord Marvel line that first carried Seiko’s groundbreaking 36,000 bph high-beat movement. Introduced in 1967, the caliber 5740C was Japan’s very first high-beat movement and only the second in the world at the time, running at 36,000 beats per hour. It set the stage for Seiko’s later chronometer-grade calibers, including those used in King Seiko, and showed that Seiko could compete directly with Swiss watchmakers at the highest level of precision. The 5740-8000 represents the third generation of the Lord Marvel and is widely regarded as the peak of the line. This example features a silver linen-textured dial with applied Arabic numerals, a rare and charming configuration that adds warmth and character to its dressy design. The case measures 37.5mm x 41.5mm, slim at just 10mm thick, with sharp unpolished lines that emphasize its understated elegance. The manual-wind caliber 5740C inside has been fully serviced, running strong with its 23 jewels and high-beat accuracy. Completing the watch is a light brown leather strap. The watch is in great shape for its age, with only a few minor scratches on the case and case back. The crystal is flawless, with clean bezel, clean dial and case. The watch has been serviced, so it’s keeping excellent time. Watch doesn’t come with original box and paper so standard Seiko box will be provided upon purchase.
