Hello all. Up for sale this time is an eye-catching and rare 1978 ROLEX DateJust 1603. While the 1603 is not an uncommon watch by itself, what makes this one so special is that absolutely stunning and close-to-flawless sigma gray dial. For those that do not know, early gray (and blue) dials supplied to Rolex often suffered from strong degradation. This is why when you find these rare dials, you often find then with very heavy unsightly patina. This one, as the photos show, is quite different. Simply put, it's in amazing condition for being over 45 years old and and it's not likely you'll see another one like this in the wild. Although the dial is the star of the show, it is complimented by a very healthy case that appears to have largely escaped the polishing wheel. While I won't say that it's unpolished, it has certainly retained thick lugs, sharp lines, and defined bezel features. The watch was serviced by RSC in 2020 and appears to have been seldom used as it is still beating with a top-notch amplitude of \~300 degrees.
