Grail alert! Here we have a Seiko 6159-7001 hi-beat diver from July 1969. This comes from a period in Seiko’s history when they were relentlessly innovating, and this was one of their divers aimed at the professional diver market. Many of the Marinemaster 300 models trace their lineage to this model (this particular reference was reissued as the SLA025 a couple years back.) It features a monocoque case and was rated to 300m of water resistance, as well as a Grand Seiko 36,000 bph movement—look at that seconds hand sweep! I’m not sure of the history of this particular piece, but it’s safe to guess that it was used for its intended purpose and is ready for retirement. I don’t note any major damage or issues however. Bidirectional bezel has faded from the original gold to a subtle silver and has wear at 12 o’clock as pictured, but turns pretty well. Crown has some marks and action is a little gritty but does screws and has a new crown gasket Movement: freshly serviced 6159, running around 230+ amplitude at full wind and keeping great time. Your accuracy may vary depending on wear patterns but should be -5 to +10 seconds per day Strap: brand new Uncle Seiko chocolate bar strap, exact reproduction of what this watch would have come with. Also has Uncle’s fat flanged spring bars. Dial and hands: some (typical) lume degradation as pictured in photos, dial is in nice condition otherwise. The original seconds hand had the red dot completely faded to white so this is a NOS replacement. (Happy to include the original seconds hand if you’d like.)
