Hello everyone,

initially bought for a friend, he’s opted for another watch now, so this one can make somebody else around here happy. It’s an early 60s original black gilt dial Seamaster DeVille from the short timespan in which Omega built those without the extra „DeVille“ text on the dial.

The Watch

Omega Seamaster DeVille
Reference: Probably 14770
Movement: cal. 56x full-rotor automatic
Year: ca. 1960
Case: 34.5mm, stainless steel with
Dial: Original black dial on silver gilt
Bracelet: Omega 8270 7-row Beads of Rice bracelet with #70 endlinks

Condition

Dial: The glossy black gilt dial with cross hair is very uncommon on these, but fully original. The dial shows deterioration that is seen regularly on the gilt dials. I’ve included pictures from various angles to give you a good impression how it looks in person; the visibility of the deterioration is highly dependend on the angle itself. It does remain a stunner, though.

Case: Original 34.5mm stainless steel case in very sharp condition. Even the original brushing on the case back is fully preserved. Small scratches etc. evenly spread over the case after >60 years, of course, but nothing major and an overall very good appearance.

Crown: Original and correct Omega-crown. It’s a service part, only apparent by the slightly different logo

Crystal: Difficult one: It has the elegant, super-low profile of originals but I can't spot the etched logo. It's in good shape, with only a few minor, superficial scratches. The logo might have been polished away, I've seen that before if something scratched the inside of the plexi, but do please assume it's a generic replacement, albeit a great one.

Movement: I can’t provide movement pics as I cannot open those front-loaders. However, I guarantee it’s the correct cal. for the reference. I do not have a service history but it runs, sets and winds very smoothly, the semi-quickset of the date works effortlessly and the unishell-case means those tend to be pretty waterproof, usually leading to well preserved movements.

Bracelet: Original Omega Beads of Rice bracelet, ref. 8270 with #70 endlinks. Those 7-row BoRs are the correct style for Seamaster DeVilles and are a great fit. It shows some scratches on the clasp, of course, but is in good shape overall, with a stretch level I would consider very low for BoRs. Length is great, I have a 18.5cm wrist and use the middle oft he 7 holes on the clasp. 20cm wrists will definitely work, if you need me to measure more precisely let me know.
