Manufacturing of Hamilton watches took place at their facility in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.* This may be one of the most historically significant timepieces we have ever worked on—a Hamilton 917 without a serial number, among the last 917s produced on U.S. soil. By serial number records, 917 movement production ceased in 1954. However, during Hamilton’s transition to Switzerland, a small number of 917s were manufactured without serial numbers, marking a major turning point in watchmaking history as the American industry yielded to Swiss dominance. This particular piece, crafted at Hamilton’s Lancaster, Pennsylvania facility around 1956, is a tangible artifact of that historic era. The accompanying box, case, and papers confirm it was presented as a gift on February 29, 1956—two years after the last recorded 917 serial number. Inscribed to William D. Colburn by the employees of Connecticut Light & Power (now part of Eversource Energy), the watch symbolizes the twilight of nearly two centuries of American watchmaking.Converted into our 44 mm pocket watch conversion, this piece features adjustable lugs, gaskets for 50 meters of water resistance (though not recommended for water activities), and its original documentation. This extraordinary timepiece represents the final chapter of American horology as the last great American watchmaker transitioned to Switzerland. **Price**: $3,249, But absolutely negotiable—especially to someone with an interest in getting involved in vintage American watchmaking. **Case**: 316L stainless, 44 mm diameter, 47 mm lug to lug (52 mm with crown), 13 mm height, front/back sapphire crystals. International shipping via DHL Express (\~$100), which takes approximately one week. **Payment Method**: PayPal, PayPal Credit, Venmo, Apple Pay, CashApp, Wise, Afterpay, Affirm, Klarna, and All Major Credit Cards **Service History**: The watch was serviced in 2025 and comes with a 1-year service warranty.
