This one is a caliber 85, a very limited production movement introduced in 1950 and only produced for 2 years. This was IWC's second-ever automatic movement and their first with a central seconds hand. Production is estimated to be just 8,400 units across all models during the two years it was in production. Like all IWC automatic movements, the caliber 85 utilizes the innovative and efficient Pellaton winding system, which gives the watch great shock protection compared to other pieces from the era. This example is doubly rare for the full Arabic numeral dial, which is patinaed but otherwise in remarkable original condition. The vast majority of IWC from this era with any numerals will have a 3/6/9/12 arrangement rather than this one. This case measures 34mm wide, with a 41.35mm lug to lug length and 17mm lug width. Case edges are still nice and sharp with brushing visible on the sides of the lugs. Service history is unknown but the movement is running and winds and sets smoothly.
