Back in the 2000s, TAG Heuer asked INDTEC (now Soprod) to develop a perpetual calendar movement with regatta timer and chronograph complications. And thus, the Calibre S was born. AFAIK, the regatta version which you see here was only made in 2007 and 2008. The Calibre S isn’t a regular quartz movement. It’s a 27-jewel meca-quartz movement, or electro-mechanical as per TAG Heuer. From what I’ve seen, they call it mechanical due to the gears used in the retrograde mechanism. The regatta timer counts down from -10 to -1 minute and lets you synchronize the hands with official timing signals. There’s also a 1/10th chronograph function. Some enthusiasts claim it’s “the most amazing caliber in the history of TAG Heuer” due to its complexity. Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: the perpetual calendar. You can view the day via the counters located at 4:30 and 7:30 when the chronograph and regatta functions aren’t in use. The month and year can be set by pulling the crown to the first position.
