Released by Panerai in 2021 was this beautiful Luminor Marina Carbotech Blu Notte PAM 1664, a 500-piece limited edition exclusively for the brand’s e-commerce store. The resilient yet super lightweight watch is done in a 44mm Carbotech case, which is the carbon fiber composite that Panerai has used for many years now. This was the first time Panerai matched a Carbotech case with a blue dial, and the result is a handsome and well-proportioned watch that that is absolutely easy to wear on a regular basis.

Its lightweight durability and almost Damascus steel-like pattern created by the material’s layering process. The process of creating Carbotech involves layering sheets of carbon fiber that are held together with a polymer resin and then heated and pressurized, which is shown in the incredible subtle lines all over the case.

The Blu Notte dial beneath that sapphire crystal has a lustrous sun-brushed finish that imparts to it a suitably nautical character — as Panerai puts it, “like rays of sun filtering through fathoms of the sea.” Constructed in Panerai’s signature sandwich style, the dial hosts numerals, indices, and black steel hands coated with white Super-LumiNova that glows green in the dark. The small seconds display at 9 o’clock, parallel to the date window at 3 o’clock gives the dial a harmonious, symmetrical look.
