Greetings Watchexchange! Up for sale today is a lovely Seiko 9943-8040 Grand Quartz from July of 1978. The 99xx movements from Suwa Seikosha were an early implementation of "Twin Quartz", a method for thermo compensation allowing these watches to perform within +-10 seconds per year. Unfortunately, early twin quartz are known to drift from their original accuracy and the watch performs around +15 seconds per month. The case is a spectacular take on "Grammar of Design" with sharp lines and angles blended with elegant broad curves. The case measures 35mm across and 42mm lug to lug but the watch definitely wears larger due to the shape and stature of the lugs. The watch comes on a lovely handmade 19mm green leather strap, and the original bracelet. Note that the original bracelet will not fit a wrist larger than 6.2", and that some of the permanent pins have damage. The watch has had a crystal replacement with a clear mineral crystal.
