For those not in the know, the Seiko 7A28, 7A38 and 7A48 calibers were quite the kick in the teeth to the Swiss. While this was a quartz movement, it was the first analog quartz chronograph. And not only that, it was capable of 1/10th of a second timing! While Rolex and Omega were putting some plastic gears into their quartz movements to save costs, this is all metal construction so it is more durable than the Swiss equivalent of the time, and more repairable. When I got this I loved it, even though two tone watches weren't (and aren't) really my thing, I wore it a lot. After a long hike, some condensation was inside the case. I was bummed. But one can still get these serviced at Seiko! So off it went. That was two years ago. Also, when I bought it, the time keeping was fine, but the chronograph functions didn't work. $175 later, it was cleaned and fixed. All functions work. I think it may even have an alarm but I'm not sure. New seals and water tested by the service techs too! If you're not up on the history, Warn & Wound did a nice two part review of it. Part 2 opens with "Fancy owning a little piece of horological history?" and closes with "the prices on these are headed just one way. Get one while you still can." I couldn't agree more. So why am I selling? Because I found a PERFECT ONE that I bought about 6 months ago. So this one can be worn and treasured by another vintage fan (while I love some nice new watches, I find that microbrands and vintage has a lot of attainable value out there. For the price of my Speedy moonphase, I can have A LOT of watches like this, and I do!) There are a few for sale on Chrono24 including a very nice one at $600+, none have service history and you'd be in another almost $200 to get one that you can have the confidence in like this one.
