Hi all! Here for sale is something special: a Gallet Marathon Navigator ref. 211 Brief history: In 2 August 1990, Saddam Hussein decided to invade Kuwait. The operation was only a formality for the powerful Iraqi army, but it led to an immediate reaction from the UN and the United States immediately set up a multilateral coalition to liberate the small petromonarchy. In a few days, the dispatch of American soldiers to the Gulf was organised. The dictator's intransigence led to war, declared on 16 January 1991 after several months of diplomatic efforts and threats. It was in this context that the American army placed an urgent order to obtain a military-standard watch to equip the US Air Force. The 1986 generation Marathon having proved its worth, the contract was awarded to the Canadian company. The "Gulf War" version of the Marathon Navigator Pilot reference 211 was thus designed in record time. A particularity of this model: the use of gaseous tritium tubes on the hour markers and the hands in order to ensure a constant visibility in case of low external luminosity. These tubes contain a hydrogen isotope which, unlike the usual photo-luminescent paints, does not need to be excited (react to photons) to glow in the dark. It is the presence of this material that explains the "H3" on the dial, the symbol for tritium, as well as the letter "T". With its screwed crown and its high resistance curved plexiglass, it is announced as being resistant to 200 metres (660 feet).
