From the Disney vault (AKA my personal stash) hands-down the nicest bombe lug IWC Cal 89 I’ve ever come across! Didn’t think I would part with it but here we are… An estate find, this appears to be completely untouched from 1957, crisp and sharp and simply perfect. Tons of great articles have been written, by Hodinkee and Goldammer, regarded as the best mid-century dress watch at the price point. Besides being in unreal condition, this one is 18k pink gold - if you want a cal 89 - and ya should - it really doesn’t get better than this! YEAR: 1957 DIAL: The cleanest example I’ve ever seen, even up close under macro it looks perfect. That great off-white silvery shimmer, the 3-6-9-12 gold markers, the minute dots, and my personal favorite the old IWC script font. CRYSTAL: Has light wear, of course being vintage plexi, but mostly on the edges and nothing that detracts from that gorgeous dial. CASE: Incredible unpolished 36.5MM 18k pink gold case - again, I don’t think it gets better than this. Super sharp, you could cut yourself on these lugs! Of course has light wear throughout being unpolished, with some nice patina forming on the gold. Another reason why these are loved, at 36.5 MM with a 45.5 MM lug to lug, you get that great vintage looking and feel with a lot of modern precence (photographed on my 6.6 inch wrist.) MOVEMENT: IWC’s legenadary hand wound cal 89 - widely regarded as one of the best hand movements to come out of mid-century watchmaking. Winding and setting smoothly, and just regulated by my watchmaker. STRAPS: On this sweet new handmade green alligator strap with gold colored buckle. I think the funky style of those lugs goes beautifully with this strap. Other strap options available to the new owner if they’re like, but I think this is a fantastic pairing.
