Introduced as part of the flagship Constellation line, it represents the brand’s legacy of chronometer-certified accuracy while offering one of the most iconic dial designs of the era. The standout feature of this model is its distinctive pie-pan dial, with sharply faceted edges that give the dial depth and character. On this version, the dial is enhanced with a crosshair design for added balance and symmetry. Applied hour markers shimmer subtly against the silver surface, while the small gold star above 6 o’clock points to the Constellation’s heritage as a chronometer-grade watch. The sculpted dog-leg lugs give the 34mm case a strong wrist presence despite its vintage proportions, while the Observatory medallion on the caseback serves as a symbol of Omega’s pursuit of chronometric excellence. Inside beats the Omega Caliber 564, one of the brand’s finest automatic movements of the period. It features 24 jewels, chronometer certification, and the convenience of a quickset date—a practical feature rare for its time. The copper-toned finishing and refined bridge layout showcase Omega’s attention to both engineering and aesthetics. At a time when watch design often leaned on excess, the 168.005 stood out for its restraint and balance. It was the work of a young Gérald Genta, whose design instincts gave the Constellation its voice long before he went on to shape icons like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and IWC Ingenieur. This example remains in excellent original condition for its age, showing minor scratches here and there and no dents. The dial is clean and crisp, the crystal is clear, though you can see patina dots on the dial. It has been recently serviced and is keeping great time at +/-5s a day. The watch comes fitted on the custom leather straps with Omega buckle. Although it doesn’t come with original box and papers, a standard watch box will be provided upon purchase.
