For sale is this vintage Seiko "Chariot" (5E31-5A10), made in Japan in January of 1989. The "Chariot" dress watch series by Seiko is known for their thinness, elegant design and high quality quartz movements.  This example, reference number SABW002, is one of the top-tier releases from the "Chariot" series in that it has the higher accuracy calibre 5E31 (that was used in some more expensive "Dolce" line models) and also had the extra benefit of having a sapphire scratch resistant crystal compared to other "Chariot" models, which were usually only reserved for the top-of-the-line Seiko models (the rest had Seiko's Hardlex crystals which were not as scratch resistant). The dial has a subtle but beautiful texture, like a thatched effect showing yet again that Seiko are king of dials. The matte/satin texture allows the high-polish stick baton indices and alpha hands to shine in contrast. The dial disposes of any un-needed text and simply displays the Seiko logo in black print in elegance.  This watch has a wonderful gothic case design giving it a villainous look. It bares similarities in looks and wearability of the Cartier Tank but with a more art-deco touch - perfect to pair with a suit as it would slip under a cuff having a thickness of only 5mm. The gold case is in wonderful condition considering its age of almost 40 years old. The calibre 5E31 movement is nice and compact and has a crazy accuracy of 20 seconds per YEAR (which means less than 2 seconds per month, as a reference, compared to Casio's famous F-91W which has an accuracy of 30 seconds per month). Comes on the original Seiko lizard-style leather strap, which is very rare to find although it has seen better days (see pics) and with the original Seiko buckle. Brand new battery.
