Vaer has long been on my watchlist, as I've been really impressed with what I've seen from them over the past few years. They're making quite the splash in the high-end microbrand market, and their latest success takes things a step above what they've done to this point. The finishing is extremely well done, and they've actually managed to make a 39mm diver that isn't just a copy+paste of a vintage sub. This version is one of their "USA" autos, designed and assembled in good ol' America using the ultra-reliable Miyota 9015. It's not Swiss, but it winds smoother, runs more accurately for longer, and doesn't come with the Swiss price tag. This iteration of the flagship diver like is special - from the bright red/blue display to the multi-layered dial, this might be the coolest design they've come up with yet. The name comes from one of the best surf breaks in California, and it's clearly got beach vibes going here. They went with a coin-edge bezel rather than their typical scalloped bezel, and it gives some killer vintage vibes. The coolest feature for my lizard brain - the date wheel shifts from red to blue, depending on the day.
