This signature Tuna case “shroud” on this particular reference was made of titanium, as were the other case parts, and the buckle for the strap. It utilizes Seiko’s “Black Ion” DLC coating, which, on the titanium parts takes on a color I would call charcoal gray/black, as opposed to the various steel parts, which appear dark (traditional?) black. The vertically brushing on the outer walls of the shroud gives way to a mirror polish along the cutouts and topmost ridge. It’s very interesting find this much contrast and texture in what is basically an entirely black watch. The bezel insert is also polished to a mirrored sheen, providing an additional layer of texture. (As an aside; the studio lights provide an exaggerated perception of the differences in the different “black” surfaces, which are not quite as pronounced in regular wearing conditions.)

Particulars:

Case Size: Diameter is 50mm. Bezel Diameter is 41mm. So it wears much smaller than you would think for a 50mm watch. Inner and outer cases are titanium.

Bezel: 120 clicks, unidirectional.

Crystal: Saphire, anti-glare internal coating.

Strap: P-22 - Original to the watch. 22/20 silicone rubber. Titanium pin buckle and steel keeper. (This is the newer P-22 strap, which is much more flexible and comfortable than the older Z-22 strap that’s fitted to many Marinemasters.) A new P-22 strap is included in the package.

Movement: 5R65 Spring Drive. Rated at 72 hours power reserve. (In practice, I would put the reserve around 60 hours.) Seiko notes a 15 second deviation per month. (In practice, my results have been about +3-5 seconds per month on a winder. I timed it for four days prior to posting this and my results were +/- zero. I won’t guarantee your results will be the same. Mine were measured on a winder. But it’s a very good sign overall.) The automatic winding mechanism works very well.

Depth Rating: 600 meters.

Overall condition: Pretty much as new. I’ve only worn it a few times; very carefully. Package includes all boxes, hang tags, instruction and warranty materials, extra new P-22 strap, as you see in the photographs.
