[WTS] Seiko 3803-7080 “Baby Morpho” With a Dial That Changes Colour, and a Multi-Faceted Crystal
# Reference: **Model**: Seiko 3803-7080 “Baby Morpho” **Year**: March 1975 **Album**: [https://imgur.com/a/udZWQ6t](https://imgur.com/a/udZWQ6t) **Timestamp:** [https://imgur.com/a/KqxJFhS](https://imgur.com/a/KqxJFhS) # Features: **The Design**. One watch, three faces. The Seiko “Morpho” and “Baby Morpho” are aptly named for their dials’ ability to change colour, or “morph,” as you view them from different angles. The heptagonal faceted crystal enhances this eye-catching effect, as it allows the multiple dial colours to be seen from a single viewing position. However, at the time, the dial and crystal were overshadowed by what was inside the watch… **The History.** On Christmas Day 1969, Seiko released the world’s first quartz watch - the Seiko Quartz-Astron 35SQ. Often incorrectly cited as a limited release of 100, the Astron 35SQ most likely sold over 1,000 units, which was particularly impressive given that these prototype “electric” watches cost as much as a Ford Mustang at the time (around $3,000). However, the 35-caliber movement was not very reliable and was incredibly costly to produce. **The Movement.** The 38-caliber quartz movement, found inside the Baby Morpho, represented Seiko’s attempt to create a more commercially viable option - both in terms of reliability and affordability. Priced at only half(!) the cost of a Ford Mustang, the 3803 “Baby Morpho” was introduced in 1972. **The Bracelet.** On the original bracelet. Fits a 20cm or 8.0 inch wrist. # Details: **Condition**: The crystal has visible markings, mainly in the top left corner (noticeable in the photos). The case is free from any significant markings, but it appears to have been refinished by a previous owner. The facets are still true to the original, but angles aren't as sharp as they would be on a Dead Stock piece. The dial is great. The crystal is totally unpolished. On the original bracelet. **Scope**: No box or papers. **Movement**: 3803 Vintage Quartz \- Case Width: 38.0mm \- Lug to lug: 45.0mm \- Case Thickness: 12.0 – 15.0mm (measured to the lowest point of the crystal to the highest point of the crystal) **Price**: Offered at **$750** plus shipping. I accept a wide variety of payment methods (PayPal F&F / G&S, Wise, Bank Transfer, most major Credit Cards), depending on your buying/selling history in the subreddit. Transaction fees paid by the buyer. **Of note**: Nothing to report.
