Up for sale is the iconic Seiko Helmet Chronograph from November 1976, reference 6139-7100. This timepiece traces its roots back to 1969, a pivotal year in watchmaking when the first three automatic chronographs emerged: the Calibre 11, the El Primero, and Seiko's own Caliber 6139. The Seiko Caliber 6139 is a notable 17-jewel automatic chronograph movement featuring a single thirty-minute register at 6 o'clock and a day/date indicator. It boasts a unique quick-set date function: to set the day, you push the crown all the way in until it changes; for the date, a gentler press will do. Affectionately known as the "Helmet" due to its distinctive case design, reminiscent of a space helmet, this bold and angular case not only makes a strong visual statement but also captures the essence of the era, making it a standout piece for collectors and enthusiasts alike. The tachymeter scale on the bezel provides a practical tool for measuring speed over distance. Fun Fact: This model was worn by Al Pacino in the 1977 movie "Bobby Deerfield". He is seen wearing this beauty throughout the movie, earning it the nickname "Al Pacino." Additionally, it’s known as the "Stormtrooper," resembling the iconic characters from Star Wars, similar to the Seiko Helmet "Darth Vader" model I sold earlier. This model features a hardlex crystal, and a white dial contrasting beautifully with black hands and markers. Other than that it comes with its original fish-bone bracelet. The watch is in very good condition overall, with some wear visible on the case and a small chip on the bottom of the crystal, consistent with its age.
