An unworn, immaculate condition, early 2000s, now discontinued, titanium 8F56 HAQ (+/- 20 seconds per **year**) GMT Perpetual Calendar Alpinist from Seiko. [Click here to see a video of the watch in action](https://www.instagram.com/p/C3kSQjDqTRF/) **Model**: Seiko SBCJ019 / 8F56-00D0 **Year**: February 2004 **Complications**: It’s both GMT and a Perpetual calendar. The calendar won’t need correcting until February 28, 2100. Despite having a GMT hand, it’s still an Alpinist at heart so there’s rotating inner compass bezel instead of a World Timer bezel. The bezel can be used to determine the direction of North as long as you can see the Sun. **The Movement**: High Accuracy Quartz (HAQ). In its very nature quartz is very accurate (typically +/- 15 seconds per month), but it has one major weakness: changes in temperature. HAQ movements are thermos-compensated, meaning they can adjust themselves when the temperature changes, resulting in an accuracy of +/- 20 seconds per year! **The Battery**: The 8F56 battery has a 10-year lifespan. It was replaced in 2023 so you’re good to go for a while! **Materials**: The case and bracelet are titanium making it super lightweight. A mix of polished and brushed surfaces give it a rugged but smart appearance. The bracelet is the full length (13 link) original titanium bracelet. **The Condition**: Unworn and in brilliant condition. The crystal is flawless. The case is not absolutely immaculate as there are some tiny abrasions on some of the polished surfaces, but for a 20-year-old titanium polished surface you’d think it was brand new! Pictures 3 and 4 show the small abrasions on the edge of the bezel. The case back and bracelet are sealed behind protective covers.
