Good afternoon, Watchex. Up for your consideration today is my lovely Grand Seiko SLGB005 that I recently imported from Japan. Please check out the gallery and video to enjoy the beauty of this watch properly. The modern UFA series watches are an evolution of the vintage VFA series of extremely accurate Grand Seikos. These UFA spring drive movements are currently the most accurate mainspring-powered movements on the planet, with a rated accuracy of +/- 0.05spd, or about 20 seconds per year. The special part about this watch isn't just the movement, but the entire package. The UFA series of watches also debuted the new 37mm Evolution 9 case from Grand Seiko, which answers all the prayers of enthusiasts, and what sold me on the watch personally. The 37mm case wears fantastically due to its short lug-to-lug and slim 11mm thickness. Never has there been this slim and comfortable of a spring drive watch from Grand Seiko, let alone one with this dial and impressive movement. The dial on this limited edition "Violet Dawn," as it's called, has a mesmerizing purple hue to it. It's a subtle purple glow with a hint of the texture most of the time, but in the right lighting, the texture explodes off the dial, and the purple glows like nothing I've seen before. If you're looking for a crazy pop of color to add to your collection, this likely isn't it. The purple is subdued enough to look black most of the time, it's on the wrist. It's like winning the lottery without telling anyone - nobody knows about the secret purple but you. Unlike the other UFA offerings, this SLGB005 is made of Ever-Brilliant Steel - and you can absolutely tell that it's not regular 316L stainless. The case has a cool tone to it that complements the purple dial perfectly and has a sheen to it that is unrivaled. This example has been worn less than a dozen times, with the bracelet being sized but never worn. This watch is nearly brand new with only very minor hairline marks on a few of the highly polished edges.
