The Breguet Classique “Calendrier” or “Day Date Moonphase” reference 7337BA/1E/9V6 is masterful update and modernization to one of my favorite all time watches, the reference 3330, which is turn the wristwatch adaption from an original Abraham Louis Breguet pocket watch design from the 1800’s. In my opinion, the dial layout is, or has to be, the most clean, elegant, aesthetically pleasing, and symmetrical display of the day, date, moonphase, and, of course, time. The reference 7337 is distinguished by a subtle and intentional disruption to that symmetry in the slight offset of the subsidiary seconds dial, which adds a little extra Breguet quirk and charm. Otherwise, the 7337 builds on the reference 3330 / 3337 with not just one, but four(!) different hand or traditionally applied guilloche patterns on the dial, while still maintaining a beautiful balance and symmetry to the dial that I feel is lost in the most recent versions that have oversized day and date apertures that are drooped down the sides of the dial and set much lower. The current release also clutters the dial with additional text and only features one guilloche pattern, while utilizing the same, wonderful, 502.3 QSE1 movement at a $55,600 price tag. A true display of old-school craftsmanship inside and out, the 7337 features modern updates such as the silicon hairspring and 45-hour power reserve from the beautifully finished Fredric Piguet caliber 71 base. It’s truly the modern proportioned take on a perfect design. **Case:** The 39 x 47 x 10 mm yellow gold case appears to be unpolished and in very good condition, exhibiting light wear and surface scratches to the polished surfaces as shown in the photographs. **Dial:** The silvered, solid gold dial is a true work of art featuring four different traditionally applied guilloche patterns, the classic radially brushed hour and minutes tracks, and always excellent heat blued Breuget hands. I particularly love the soleil guilloche in the second subdial and the applied gold nipples or cabochons to mark the hours. This particular dial is potentially unique as it is missing the “dot” or fifth-second marker on the subsidiary second’s track. For the nuanced collectors in particular, this may be a unique “error dial” that is otherwise flawless and free of any imperfection. Piguet caliber 71 derived ultra-thin automatic winding movement with an offset winding rotor. It is beautifully finished with cotes de Geneve, perlage on the base plate, polished counter sinks and screw heads, and applied anglage. The winding rotor features the same hand applied guilloche pattern as the outer portion of the dial.
