The design draws inspiration from the shape of the Endurance space station, with two of the film’s iconic military robots featured at 4 and 8 o’clock. The 12/3/6/9 markers hide a Morse code message from the movie’s plot, while a ring of binary code along the outer edge reveals coordinates to a secret location. On the caseback, I’ve engraved the Dylan Thomas poem recited throughout the film by Professor Brand. I also love how the movement’s rotor and balance wheel visually echo the black hole from the movie’s climax. The dial was designed by me in LightBurn and crafted on my 50w fiber laser. It’s cut from a sheet of bronze, hand-painted, lacquered, and assembled into a 39mm stainless steel case. Power comes from a durable NH38 automatic movement.
