I don’t know how the photos got all mixed up! Anyway, this is a vintage Tag Heuer 740.306 2000 Series Automatic Chronograph with a Valjoux 7750 movement. The watch is running, keeping good time, and all of the chronograph functions are working properly. Cosmetically it’s in very good condition. The case bezel and bracelet are all excellent. The best you’re ever going to find for one of these vintage Tags. The dial is very good. The only thing showing signs of wear at all is the lume, and there’s nothing you can do about that with the watch that’s 30 years old. HERES THE ISSUE: And I’m going to explain it in all the detail I have. There was a speck of dust on the dial that was bothering me, so I brought the watch to a watchmaker. He pulled the crown and stem took out the movement, blew off the speck, and went to put it back together. When he went to return the stem, he had some trouble getting it in. For some reason, the watch will go into date setting mode just fine. And it will go fully in, where it winds just fine. The issue is that it will not go into time setting mode. The watchmaker says that for some reason it’s not engaging and he needs to take a look at the “detent”, which he described as being “like the clutch,” because something is “sticky” in there. He assured me that it’s not a huge ordeal, but also the guy is so backed up that he can’t even look at it until February, and I’m annoyed. My gut tells me that this is not a big problem for a watchmaker, and he’s just really backed up with the holiday season. My guy also tells me that maybe this is a good opportunity for a full service to get this watch working like new and wear it for another 30 years. Since it needs some sort of service anyway. Either way, this Watch is in rarely good condition, even with the issue. When working, they go for 1200+ tax and shipping in worse cosmetic condition.
