Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.* This 1900 Elgin features a dial and handset that would later define the look of WWI trench watches. The high contrast dial with bold black numerals and block-letter ELGIN logo was designed for maximum legibility — a functional style that predates and foreshadows the field watches carried into the trenches years later. The spade-and-whip hands follow the same design language, a rare choice for a timepiece from the very beginning of the 1900s and one that makes this piece stand out more than a century later. Inside, the 15-jewel Grade 216 movement — from the very first year of its production — has been meticulously restored with hand-blued screws, polished jewel settings, and a golden gear train that gleams just as it did over 120 years ago. The movement is housed in our 40 mm conversion case, designed for comfort and wearability while preserving the integrity and character of the original American pocket watch. A piece that bridges the pocket watch era and the wristwatch revolution — trench-style from dial to hands.
