The Panerai to have, quintessential to the core, and just a pure unabashed and distinct design object, this “Pre-A” OP6502 with PVD case and tritium sandwich dial establishes the DNA for the reincarnation and future of the brand. This time-only, manually wound Luminor example is as clean and stoic as it gets. No unnecessary text or logos on the dial, tritium warmth and character, in great condition throughout and including the boxes and extra straps. Case: The 44 mm PVD coated Luminor case is in very nice and clean condition throughout, exhibiting a few minor surface scratches, but in what I would consider “goldilocks” condition – excellent, unpolished, and very clean, but not a NOS safe queen you’d be afraid to enjoy. Dial: The sandwich tritium “T – SWISS – T” dial is free of any defects and in excellent condition throughout. The original tritium hands have aged to a slightly lighter color than the hour markers, which is very typical and often seen. Movement: The Panerai OPI movement is based on the ETA 6497-1and is winding, setting, and running very well at approximately +4 s/d. Includes: Outer cardboard box, inner wooden box with velvet cover, included screwdriver for strap changes, two black leather OE straps with Panerai signed buckles (one polished, one PVD), and nubuck strap from B&R Bands pictured. To Know: Vendome (Richemont) acquired Officine Panerai in 1998 and started production with A and B series models. Just prior to that, an extremely limited run of “Pre-A” watches were released, reportedly to generate attention and interest. It is said less than approximately 1,700 were made across 7(+?) models, with quantities per each model unknown, made rarer by condition and the collectability due to the early, tritium nature. Price: $15,000 including insured shipping via FedEx within the continental US. International shipping available at cost. Payment by wire or ACH, no trades please.
