# SBGV247 Video: [https://imgur.com/a/pFcjSnI](https://imgur.com/a/pFcjSnI) Up for sale is this limited edition Grand Seiko SBGV247, in the same discontinued case used on (I think) only 3 references, most the SBGV245 "Grey Beast". This model is a navy blue and orange motif, with the Seiko quartz logo repeating across the dial in a raised interlocking pattern. The case measures 40mm in diamater, with a 46.6mm lug to lug and 11.8mm thickness. Lug width 19mm, and this has a screwdown crown. Condition is good with some signs of wear, and the strap shows no staining or discoloration on the cream-colored leather lining. Also includes an orange silicone extra strap. Comes as pictured with both boxes, Grand Seiko service paperwork, and manual. I just received a Rolex Explorer II from Matt, very smooth deal. The watch is better than advertised. I'd have no problem buying from him again. My only complaint, it was a tossup between my sawzall and the Jaws of Life to get the package opened, very securely packaged!!

The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewelry shop called "K. Hattori" (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten?) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha (精工舎 Seikōsha?), meaning roughly "House of Exquisite Workmanship". According to Seiko's official company history, titled "A Journey In Time: The Remarkable Story of Seiko" (2003), Seiko is a Japanese word meaning "exquisite" or "success" ("exquisite" is usually written 精巧 from Chinese jīngqiǎo, while the meaning "success" is usually written 成功 from Chinese chénggōng).

Seiko is perhaps best known for its wristwatches, all of which were at one time produced entirely in-house. This includes not only major items such as microgears, motors, hands, crystal oscillators, batteries, sensors, LCDs but also minor items such as the oils used in lubricating the watches and the luminous compounds used on the hands and the dials.
