[WTS] Longines Dirty Dozen WWW Greenlander 12.68z 1945 RAF WW2 Pilot watch $6500 OBO
During the last half of 1945, the British Ministry of Defence mandated new standards for watches intended for military issue. Twelve companies met these standards and manufactured the watches that would be dubbed the "Dirty Dozen" and fascinate collectors for decades. Whether worn in war or on an expedition in the farthest reaches of the Arctic, the "Greenlander" was meant to withstand it all. Longines’s contribution to the Dirty Dozen, Ref. 23088 in stainless steel, has been nicknamed “The Greenlander” due to a long-held (though ultimately debunked) belief that it was worn on the British North Greenland Expedition in 1952-1954. Its 38mm size and cathedral handset distinguish it from the others and make it a favorite of many. This watch is in good, all original condition with intact radium lume, all original parts, but a hairline crack on the crystal at 9 O'clock. The unpolished watch has scuffs commensurate with its age and use, but its original shape is fully intact with no major dents or gauges. Price: $6500 on the new strap pictured (later pictures) or $6400on a NATO. This watch is the most desirable of the dirty dozen from an aesthetic and wearability perspective. despite being produced in higher volumes than the rarest three, it often sells for more than any of the dozen other than the elusive Grana. This is the best price of any available Greenlander on C24 or Ebay by more than $1000 Price OBO including shipping (CONUS, Paypal F&F, or Zelle) (6500\*1.029=$6689 PP G&S). International shipping available, but I'll have to find out how much it costs before I quote.
