On offer from my personal connection is a terrific example of a Certina DS-2 ph200m dive watch, from 1969-70. This is the most iconic model, known colloquially as "the Burton" because of, well, Richard Burton (see pic). It's a chunky tool watch with a commanding wrist presence, and epitomizes the dive-watch aesthetic of the late-60s and early 70s. All three versions have been steadily gaining value in recent years, and ones in this kind of condition are increasingly rare.

This is all original (inc. crown and crystal), unpolished. Running strong and keeping good time. Bought from the original owner who did not actually dive with it (thankfully). Signed in five places: dial, crown, caseback ext., caseback int., movement.

The Dial: As you can see from the pics, the bright blue dial is spotless. Lume is original, and developing a nice patina. White-painted batons have no paint loss. Rectangular steel indices show no sign of degradation.

The Case: 40mm x 43.5 x 13. A very nicely proportioned case, reminiscent of the Heuer Autavia 73363. All edges sharp an unpolished. Some minor scratches visible under a loupe. Big, screw-down signed crown speaks to the piece's bona-fide's as a proper diver.

The Movement: Certina 25-651, automatic with quickset date. Serviced in 2021 and, as you can see, in amazing condition. As with all vintage divers, waterproofing is not guaranteed and I wouldn't recommend diving with it. As part of Certina's patented "Double Security" (i.e. "DS") system, the movement is encased entirely in an elastic shock absorber ring resembling an O-ring gasket, which absorbs the kinetic energy released by vibration and shocks. In addition, a fine cushion of air is set between the dial and the case, enabling the movement to move slightly in all directions without harming its timekeeping. The Bezel: In excellent condition with the exception of a hairline surface crack at 12 o'clock (see pics). This is barely visible to the naked eye, and shows no signs of progressing. Bezel clicks unidirectional, as a proper diver should!

Crystal: Shockingly, this still has the original mineral crystal. It has a few scratches, the most noticeable one at 6, but again, only visible in the right light--I've taken the pics specifically so they are visible to prospective buyers. You could replace it, but if the scratches bother you, a light polish should take care of it. Years of life left in this original criminal!

Watch is on a blue leather rally strap. For you, my OF crew, I will also include a vintage steel bracelet and a black leather rustic one as well.
