For sale is this vintage Seiko "Chariot" (5930-5460), made in Japan in July of 1983. The "Chariot" dress watch series by Seiko is known for its thinness, elegant design and high-quality quartz movements.  This example, reference number CFX974, is no exception with its classic styling. The dial is a beautiful subtle textured gold "paper" that gives a nice contrast with the high-polish gold pencil hands that have a thin black centre. The stick baton markers echo the hands with their high-polish gold surround and black centres for legibility. There is no need for a seconds hand on this design to streamline the simplicity and to indicate to others that the wearer is in no rush. The Seiko logo, single-crystal quartz symbol and print at the bottom of the dial are all in black. The Daini lightning bolt symbol signifies that the watch was designed and manufactured by the Daini factory during their fierce rivalry with the Suwa factory.  The square (or octagonal) case is well-proportioned and nods to the famous Cartier Tank in its design although the dial stretches to the edge, giving it a "frameless" look while giving priority to the gorgeous dial. As stated earlier, the "Chariot" series was designed to be elegant and thin, this watch being only 5mm thick, would slip right beneath the cuff of a suit.  The calibre 5930 movement is a robust workhorse and has some nice detailing that make it far prettier than the often cheap-looking quartz movements of today. Accurate to within 15 seconds per month (twice as accurate as Casio's famous F-91W). The watch comes on a brand new lizard-style black strap. The watch is in good condition for its age of over 40 years old. The crystal is in good condition with just a small chip at the top and one small scratch. The crown has wear.
