[WTS] Omega Louis Brandt antique pocket watch
This is a gorgeous antique Omega pocket watch that is amongst the very first watches to ever bear the name and logo. A little bit of history: Louis Brandt started a small Swiss watch workshop in 1848. His brand name later became Louis Brandt & Frere, then Louis Brandt & Fils. and finally the brand became Omega around 1894. (For more Omega history, see: https://www.omegawatches.com/chronicle/1848-the-first-workshop ) Many of the early Omega pocket watch models did still use the Louis Brandt name on the movement, including this one. Based on the serial number, this watch was produced between 1894 and 1901. Pics: https://imgur.com/a/o3f03lE Timestamp: https://imgur.com/a/Khl5pzu The watch is running very smoothly and keeping good time. "Grade DC", 17-jewel movement, adjusted to 5 positions. At least 5 gold-set rubies. Snail regulator. Most strikingly, the movement has gorgeous and intricate hand-engraved finishing. Beautiful! The movement is "stem-set", meaning it has a standard push/pull crown, like modern watches. This was not a common feature at the time, it was actually a recent innovation. This movement has a hidden feature under the dial known as Maltese Cross, a component that's typically found only in higher grade movements. From Google: "A Maltese cross on a mainspring barrel is part of a stopwork mechanism, specifically the Geneva stop, designed to prevent over-winding and maintain a more consistent power delivery from the mainspring. This mechanism limits the winding of the mainspring, ensuring the watch only uses the central, more consistent part of the spring's power curve." This is a size 18 pocket watch housed in a 56mm railroad style case. The case is made of "silveroid" which is a metal compound that has a similar look and feel to stainless steel, and similarly, it does not oxidize. The front bezel and case back both unscrew by hand, allowing easy access to the inside parts. The case is in exceptional condition. There are hairline surface scratches, consistent with normal wear, but no damage or dents of any kind. The case has not been dulled by the slight wear, it still has a mirror finish. Beautiful porcelain dial in mint condition, featuring original blue steel hands that are also mint. Roman numerals, and a red-font minute marker track around the edge. This is a cool little piece of Omega history, in remarkable condition for a 125+ year old watch! Grab this rare item while you can! Asking $580 USD OBO including shipping within North America.
