Have you ever been SCUBA diving 1000 feet down, and thought, “I need a chronograph while decompressing with my He escape valve”? Me neither. But this piece can do it, while looking mahvelous. This SMP300 Chrono (212.30.44.50.01.001) really surprised me in several ways. First let’s start with the obvious: she is not a petite lady. This isn’t a sleek piece to slip under your French cuffs. That said, it is surprisingly wearable. To me, on wrist this wears about the same as a Pelagos 42. If you’ve read my stuff before, you know I’m an absolute bezel action nerd. And this piece has the best bezel action of any Omega I’ve had in my hands. And on the bezel: because of the scalloped design, the sharpness of the bezel is important for actually turning it. And bezel sharpness is the first thing to go when these get polished. This bezel is crisp sharp and appears unpolished. The dial is a gorgeous inky glossy black; unique in this line. The pushers click beautifully, (column wheel chrono), and it’s running right on with high amplitude. Lastly: it’s got a warranty dated 2023, so you can rest assured you’re covered until 2028.
